The book, written by the now renowned American columnist Mitch Albom, is a real-life story about his old college professor Morrie, who got the same disease which struck scientist Hawkins, called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Morrie gave his last lecture on men’s greatest concerns, life and death, career, family, marriage, love, forgiveness and so on. Morrie gave a very honest and human narration of struggles of life and threats of death. He was enthusiastic about life, and bold when facing death. His liveliness was impressive. As a brilliant socialist, Morrie had a deep understanding on mankind and social issues. Many of his words are inspiring. One scene in the book describes an interesting scenario when Morrie was watching a basketball match on campus, everyone was cheering up the players and shouted “We are number one!”, Morrie stood up and said, “What’s wrong with being number two?” Lines like such are inspiring, and it gave the readers a heartfelt laugh. As the disease gobbled up his body, Morrie boldly declared it as going back to the infant stage, learning to live relying on help from others. Author of the Book: Mitch Albom
