Students, I think this is a book that you shouldn't miss. This is a diary written by a 13-year-old Jewish girl called Anne Frank. This little girl led a miserable life that she had to hide herself up in a little annex when Nazis was occupying Holland. After she dead from the war, her diary was discovered and published. When I read her diary, I have sympathy for her. I can hardly imagine in what way of life is like if someone has to hide in such a small annex every day and night and even has to worry for being discovered all the time. However, from her diary, I know that Anne was so tough and calm to live on. She was optimistic and she always hoped for the free life after the war. Even a 13-year-old girl could still think of hopes under the torment from the terrible war. How bad a life can be in a metropolitan like Hong Kong? I wonder why we always find news about people committing suicide in Hong Kong. We have much more good food but Anne could only have beans every day. What's more? We are free and freedom is something that we never treasure when we have. Anne didn't have freedom, good food, fresh air...but she treasured her life. I really appreciate her in this way. Besides, she always tried her best to be good and she thought the bitterness in her life as a challenge that led to a better personality of her. She looked for good in human being, treasured and respected herself by struggling for a better and dutiful Anne. Students, how do you think of those difficulties in your life? Get some tips from this 13-year-old girl. Her English is simple and easy to read. You can borrow the book from me. ISBN: 0 553 29698 1 Genre: nonfiction First published in 1947
