Originally, part of Heinemann Hong Kong Readers, when published by Heinemann Asia, this title is now published separately by Proverse Hong Kong. It is originally written for young readers (upper primary/lower secondary levels), based on extensive research. A young boy successfully applies to be an apprentice jockey, undergoes training, has his first race, resists temptation in connection with fixing a race and is rewarded by success, which he shares with his family. A dishonest apprentice jockey is disgraced. This is a story of honesty rewarded. Also suitable for adults interested in the history of the then Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club, it records past practices of the RHKJC before the opening of the Shatin race-course, particularly with reference to the apprentice jockey system. Written with the assistance of Hong Kong Royal Jockey Club officials, this title also includes a Graded Reader, Glossary and questions at the end of chapters.
